My mom, Addie “Nana” Louise Parker, age 87 of Burlington NC, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024, at UNC Hospital in Hillsborough, NC.
Nana, a native of the Pleasant Grove Community in Mebane NC, was born to the late Joseph Rudy Parker and Lunette Jeffries Parker. Nana was a top 10 graduate of the 1955 class of Pleasant Grove High School and attended North Carolina A&T State University. Nana attended Martin’s Chapel Baptist Church in Mebane, NC.
At an early age, her father gave her the nickname Spunk, which she lived up to every day of her life. She was a mother and a father to my brother Keith and I, providing love and support at every stage of our lives. Her world revolved around the two of us and we knew it! My Mom and I were blessed and proud to have the same birthday, October 28th. We shared many joyous celebrations creating memories that will forever be cherished.
Nana later spoiled her grandchildren, Brad and Britt, calling them her “little golden guineas”. She enjoyed taking them on lavish shopping trips for Easter, birthdays, Christmas, and whenever she wanted. Nana also indulged herself in spoiling her nieces and nephews with loving gifts and surprises.
My mom loved all holidays, but especially Christmas, when she would decorate every room in the house and prepare appetizers for family and friends to enjoy.
Nana was employed by Boston Sandwich Shop in Burlington NC, for over 34 years. She enjoyed greeting customers and took pride in knowing what her regulars wanted before placing their orders. This was a true testament to her caring soul and the love she had for others. My mom had an infectious spirit of making people laugh, smile, and feel loved.
Left to cherish her memories are myself, daughter Sharon P. Glover (Kemp) of Graham, two grandchildren, Bradford Keith Parker, of Graham NC, and Lauren Brittany Glover (Adrienne) of Durham NC, brother Joe Rudy Parker (Nellie) of Durham NC, a cousin that was raised as her sister, Zelma Hayes, sister-in-law, Gail F. Parker, daughter-in-law, Rhonda P. Parker and a host of well-loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Freddie Edward Parker, and her loving son, Edward Keith Parker. Nana will be greatly missed by her earthly family, but we are at peace knowing she is celebrating her reunion with Keith.
