Joyce Mae Rudd Springfield, 65 years of age, a native of Burlington, NC passed peacefully at Cone Health on March 7, 2024. She was born in the Green Level Community of Alamance County on March 22, 1958, the only daughter of James Marvin Rudd, Sr., and Bessie Fuller Rudd, both deceased. She graduated from Graham High School, class of 1976 and completed other childcare certifications at Alamance Community College.
She began employment as a daycare teacher in the early 80’s at Memorial Hospital in Burlington, NC. She later moved on to Haw River Daycare in Haw River, NC as a Co-Director for many years until retirement in early 2000’s. In 2000 she married the love of her life Leon and from then on, they became inseparable and did everything together.
She joined Miracle Temple Christian Church in 2017 where she loved to go and hear the good word from the lord and fellowship with those who loved to call her “mama Joyce”. She adopted many children over the years everyone who met or encountered her was instantly her baby so that’s when “mama Joyce” came about. She later continued her Christian journey at God’s True Word Ministry where she was appointed to the Mother’s Board by her beloved Pastor Dollveen Torres. She took great pride in being Mother of the Church until her passing.
While we know that she is at peace and that her struggles are at an end, there is pain and sadness. She has left the legacy of her love and perseverance. Joyce had a beautiful spirit and never met a stranger. She would talk to you and make you laugh with her sense of humor and comical jokes. Joyce was the life of the party and she made sure to let you know that she was the “Queen”. In her free time Joyce enjoyed spending time with her daughter Marissa. She loved making her usual visits to her favorite stores and eating at her favorite restaurants. She also enjoyed kicking back and watching tv with her “honey” which she so lovingly called her husband Leon. She also got a kick out of talking with her grandson Jayden and him helping her do the things that she always dreamed that he would do.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, James Marvin Rudd, Sr and Bessie Fuller Rudd and a bonus mother, Shirley Latta Rudd. In addition to her parents who preceded her in death, was four brothers, Rev. Jerry Rudd, Donald Rudd, James Rudd, Jr. and a bonus brother Tyrone Adams, nephew, Gregory Todd Rudd Sr, Nephew, Aaron Rudd (Jabo) and a sister-in-law, Priscilla Springfield.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband, Leonard “Leon” Springfield, and her only daughter, Marissa Boothe and only grandson, Jayden Boothe of Burlington; one brother, Ronald Rudd (Barbara) of Burlington, NC; four sisters; Robin Cheeley (Malcolm) of Greensboro, NC, Gladys Adams of Burlington, NC, Cora Strickland (Deacon James) of Whitsett, NC and Latta Adams of Burlington, NC; two sister-laws, Sarah Scott of Chapel Hill NC and Ernestine Harris (Pastor Terrell Harris) of South Carolina; five nieces, Tina Garrett-Fuller (Donald) of Greensboro, NC, Tasha Rudd Francis of Burlington, NC, Tracie Rudd of Green Level, NC, Torrie Rudd of Greensboro, NC and Trina Rudd of Burlington, NC; four nephews, Travis Rudd(Michelle) of Charlotte, NC, Jeremy and Jonathan Rudd of Louisville, KY and Dennis Jones of Zebulon, NC and her many nephews and nieces.
