Marilynn Burnett Obituary

Marilynn Gilliam Burnett, beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 10, 1951, to the late Scemonia Gilliam and Jean Corbett Gilliam.

She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Monica Williams (Ricky) of Burlington, NC, and her two sons, Rudy Mitchell, Jr. (Kerri) of St. Petersburg, FL, and Chris Burnett of Chattanooga, TN.

Marilynn's heart overflowed with love for her grandchildren, including Lemeul Lenard Currie, Jr. of Greensboro and Zion Williams of Burlington, as well as her great-granddaughter, Saige Ariel Currie. Their laughter and joy brought immense happiness to her life.

Marilynn will be deeply missed by her sisters, Patricia Gilliam of Gibsonville, NC, and Marie Ellison of Burlington, NC, sisters-in-law, Paulette Moore (Apostle Marvin) and Annette Burnett of Warrenton, GA; Carolyn Johnson of Thomason, GA; Patricia Davis and Dorothy Burnette of Atlanta, GA; and brother-in-law Johnny Burnett (Cheryl) of Decatur, GA,; one aunt, Mary Duncan and one uncle Billy Gilliam of Glen Raven, NC; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who were touched by her warmth and generosity.

In addition to her human family, Marilynn leaves behind her cherished fur baby, Lena, who brought her immense joy and companionship.

Marilynn found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a passion for reading, found solace in watching Westerns, and enjoyed the no-nonsense wisdom of Judge Judy. Her dedication to her work was evident in her many years of service at Elon University, where she retired after making a lasting impact on the community.

Marilynn will be remembered for her unwavering love, her gentle spirit, her ability to bring joy to those around her, and her laughter. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
