Reverend Charles Levi Pinnix otherwise known as “Levi” is from Alamance County and was a graduate of Western Alamance High School. He was born April 1st, 1953, to Mrs. Lula Mae Brand of Burlington, NC and step-father, O’Neal Brand of South Carolina-deceased. He married Annie L. Graves Pinnix from Caswell County, NC on Oct. 26, 1974, this year would have been their 50th wedding anniversary. He has 5 siblings: Mary Foust (Larry), Virginia Carnell, Jerry Brand, Larry Brand-deceased and Jeanette King-deceased. Rev. Pinnix has 3 children: Charles Allison, Charlotte Rivera (William) and Stephanie Pinnix. He also has 4 wonderful grandchildren: Shardiah Allison, Jaquayle Allison, Gabriel Rivera & Miguel Rivera.
Rev. Pinnix has been ministering since 1985. He received his theologian degree from Ebenezer UCC. He was a member of St. Luke Christian Church, Mebane, NC under Pastor Odell Howard where he sang in the church’s choir & taught Sunday School. He was ordained under Pastor Odell Howard’s at his 2nd church, Union Grove Congregational Christian Church, McLeansville, NC. Rev. Pinnix taught Bible Study and took on the Field Worker position for NC Congregational Christian Churches.
Rev. Pinnix pastored at his first church, Ruffin’s Chapel Congregation Christian Church, in Graham, NC for 5 years. He later decided to start his own church which was established on October 4th 1988 & was located at his home in the back yard. Upper Room Christian Church was re-located 3 years later to its current location on Hwy. 87. Rev. Pinnix was featured in the Times Newspaper for the naming of our church referencing the scripture in Acts whereas the upstairs room reminded Rev. Pinnix of the “Upper Room”.
Rev. Pinnix worked for years at General Electric, Burlington Industries and WestPoint Stevens before starting his own lawn care business, Deer Chasing Ram Lawn Care. Mrs. Pinnix loved all things FAST! He enjoyed going to Piedmont Race, and driving fast cars including his own! Rev. Pinnix’s past time would be to come home from church and watch NASCAR.
Rev. Pinnix passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024, with his family surrounding him by his side.
